Stagecoach East
Services changes from August 30th... X5 route from Oxford truncated at Bedford... New double-deck operated 905 service from Bedford-Cambridge... From August 30th the X5 will no longer operate from Oxford through to Cambridge. The existing Volvo B11R coach fleet will continue to be used between Oxford-Milton Keynes-Bedford and we also understand these coaches will be used on the 99 Milton Keynes-Luton Airport service. Currently, though, only four of the coaches have been retro-fitted with driver protection screens. The X5 from Oxford will terminate at Bedford with passengers having to change at Bedford for Cambridge with a new 905 service being introduced between Bedford and Cambridge. Operated by Bedford depot the 905 will be worked by double deck vehicles and before 19:00 on weekdays will serve Cambourne and the Regional College/Science Park on its way into/out of Cambridge following funding from the Cambridge & Peterborough Combined Authority. Given these changes we would expect the Volvo B9R/Plaxton Panther coaches, 53612/13/15/16/17/18, to be declared surplus here and either cascaded within Stagecoach UK or put up for disposal. We can also confirm that the new 915 Cambridge-Royston service will be worked by single deck vehicles operated from Cambridge depot. The core Busway routes will be the double deck-worked B from Hinchinbrooke Hospital to Cambridge every 20 minutes on weekdays and the single deck-worked A from St Ives to Cambridge and Trumpington every 20 minutes. Combined they will provide a 10 minute frequency along the main Busway route on Monday to Fridays. The combined frequency on Saturdays will be every 15 minutes and every 30 minutes on Sundays.. One other change planned here are the renumbering of schools services in the 600 series and the start of the new 904 Peterborough-St Ives service which replaces Busway services through to Peterborough. A service changes Q&A document has been published on the Stagecoach East website and can be downloaded using the link below. ![]()
